Champagne cork angel tutorial

Christmas will be here before you know it but you still have time to make some cute ornaments for the tree. Since you make this little champagne cork angel with small amounts of this and that it costs practically nothing! This little cork angel is great to attach to a bottle of wine for a hostess gift. Or use her to decorate your packages this year.

A bowdabra bow makes the best wings for this little cork angel and she will be a favorite on the tree for years to come.

Supplies:

  • 2 champagne corks
  • 1 “ 12 gauge wire
  • 11 ½” 6” wide sparkle tulle
  • 4” decorative silver wire garland
  • 4” piece 5/8” gold ribbon
  • 2 – 2” pieces of white chenille stem
  • Star charm
  • Awl or nail
  • Wire cutters
  • Tacky craft glue
  • Scrap of thick yarn in desired hair color
  • Small paint brush
  • Acrylic paint in flesh, black and red
  • Mini Bowdabra bow maker
  • Bowdabra silver bow wire

Directions:

  1. Use the awl or nail to make a hole in the bottom center of each champagne cork. Using the wire cutters cut a 1” piece of 12 gauge wire. Insert the wire into one of the corks. Add a dab of glue on the protruding wire piece and the bottom of the cork and attach to the other cork, lining up together to make the body of the angel.

  1. Twist the decorative silver wire garland piece into a circle leaving a straight piece at the bottom. Make a hole with the nail or awl in the top back edge of the champagne cork, add some glue to the straight piece and insert into the hole for the halo.

  1. Spread some tacky glue all around the head where the hair will go and wrap the yarn to attach.

  1. Use some flesh paint to make the face on the front and let dry. Add two dots of black paint for the eyes and a small red heart for the mouth. Let dry.

DIY Cork Angels Tutorial

  1. Make the wings. Cut an 18” piece of Bowdabra bow wire. Fold in half and insert into the mini Bowdabra bow maker. You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other.

  1. Insert the tulle into the bow maker and make a loop. Make a matching loop on the other side.

 How to Make Wine Cork Angels

  1. Press down with the Bowdabra wand. Insert the two loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the bow maker. Remove the bow from the bow maker. Fluff the bow and use a pencil to twist each ends of the excess wire into a spiral. Glue the bow to the back of the angel.

How to Make Wine Cork Angels

  1.  Apply some glue all around where you attached the corks and add the gold ribbon for a belt. Make a hole on each side of the angel with the awl or nail. Add some glue to each piece of chenille stem and insert into the holes with a twisting motion.

  1. Bend the arms to the front and attach the star charm to the ends with some extra glue.
