How To Make A Professional Bow

Creating a pretty Ballerina Hair Bow with a Jewel Accent

I fell in love with the Ballerina Hair Bow  on our blog – when asked to help with a friend’s child to create gifts for her dance class friends – I knew this pretty ballerina hair bow would be perfect with just a couple of “tweaks” to make it our own.

Let’s gather our supplies:

  • Mini Bowdabra Bowmaker with Ruler
  • Bowdabra Bow Wire – Silver (cut a 22 inch piece for each hair bow)
  • 1-1/2″ Width Wired Ribbon – Pink
    •  Cut one piece 15″ for tail
    •   Cut one piece 12″ for bow
  • 7/8″ Sheer / Organza Ribbon with scalloped edge – Pink
    •   Cut one piece 12″ for bow
  • Pink Jewels
  • Black Felt
  • Ballet Shoe Pattern
  • Hair Clips (available at big box craft stores)
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Let’s get started:

  • Cut Ballet Shoe detail (designer tip:  Cut the shoe and laces as one piece) from black felt, glue to both ends of 15″ Ribbon, trim ribbon around curve of shoe detail

  • Layer 12″ Chiffon Ribbon over top of 12″ Pink wired ribbon – pinch and push into the bowmaker (see details in picture)

  • Using the Bowdabra tool, push and scrunch your layers tight
  • Pull loose ends of Bowdabra Wire through loop at other end of wire, pull tight, separate ends, wrap around to back of your bow and tie a knot.

  • Glue Jewel to center of bow, tie bow onto to clip or hair tie

These adorable hair bows were a big hit with the dance class!
