Video DIY How to make a patriotic wreath bow

Materials

Bowdabra

Silver Bowdabra Bow Wire

10” x 9 yards White Tulle

(2) 5” x 2 yards Red Mesh

(2) 9” x 20” Glitter Red Ribbon

9” x 62” Glitter Red Ribbon

(2) 24” Wired Patriotic Garland

(4) 2 ½” x 12” Blue Wired Ribbon

2 ½” x 1 yard Blue Wired Ribbon

2 ½” x 1 yard Red / White Striped Ribbon

2 ½” x 26” Blue Wired Ribbon

Now we’re going to make this gorgeous patriotic wreath bow or door bow. So, let’s get started.

I’ve got my Bowdabra Bow Wire and I’ve folded it in half. I’m just going to tuck it underneath. Then, I have this tulle, and all I’m doing is basically making a backdrop. So, I’m just going to make sure my tulle is kind of spread out here. Then, I’m just going to fold it. So, I’m making really big loops here, and the white will kind of be the back of my wreath bow. We’re just going to keep folding back and forth.

And if you’re not familiar with Bowdabra, or how we make all kinds of amazing things in Bowdabra, every Monday at 4pm Pacific and 7pm Eastern, I do a Facebook Live, ½ hour Bowdabra show, and it’s really fun. We have a great community, and we even have a giveaway every week so that somebody gets to win some ribbon or other really fun stuff.

Add the mesh

Next, I’m going to take this mesh, and I’m basically going to do the same thing with my red mesh. This is the bad part when the mesh sticks with the tulle. But it’s going to work out so pretty, it’s worth a little bit of a struggle. So, we’re just going to fold this back and forth.

Also, please, if you wouldn’t mind, subscribe to our YouTube channel below, and that way, you’ll be notified when I go live on YouTube, and when I have a new video that comes out. So, all I’m doing is folding my mesh back and forth. I’m trying to make it, so it doesn’t stick to the tulle. So, I’m almost done with this part. I’m just going to keep folding it back and forth. And the mesh kind of gives itself a shape, and I’m letting it naturally shape, and naturally connect to the tulle. So, there we go. Fold this back. Oh, and also, if you wouldn’t mind commenting below.

Add the red ribbon and scrunch down

Now, fold that in there. Now I’m going to take this, it’s like a 9” wide really pretty glitter red ribbon. And just to make it a little bit, let’s scrunch everything. Now sometimes, as the Bowdabra gets really full, you have to kind of pull the towers apart. And now, I’m going to take this, and again, scrunch this down in here. And once I get it out, I’ll start really shaping it.

Then, I have another piece of this beautiful ribbon. And what I’m going to do is fold it in half, find the center, which is going to be here, and I want to make sure I put the right side of the ribbon down and scrunch that down in there. And then, what I’m going to do is come back over here, and I just want to separate it out.

And I’m going to bring this here. I’m taking the right side of the ribbon, putting it upside-down, and I’m going to then take this piece here and bring it over in an X, and then bring the right side of the ribbon back underneath and scrunch that down into the Bowdabra. Then I’m going to take the bottom loop and scrunch that. And then take this loop and scrunch that down. So, I’ll have my two really pretty loops. And you’ll see it when I shape it out in the end.

Add the garland

Now,  I have more ribbon over here. I’m going to take these cool pieces of patriotic garland, and I’m just going to lay those in. And then I have these pieces, which are just kind of tails. And just going to lay these in. So, you can see, it’s really coming together with a cool patriotic feel. And then, I have these two ribbons here that I’m going to just double up. And let’s see here. Put them together.

Next, we’re just going to make a regular bow. I’m going to twist, fold it back over, and bring this here, twist it, and bring it back over. So, I’m just folding and making sure that my ribbon stays pretty much in the center and that my striped ribbon stays in the center of my blue. So, you can see, this is getting a really patriotic feel. This will make a really pretty either door bow or part of a wreath bow. Now, I’m just going to end that and bring that back over here. And then, I’m going to take this last piece and just do a little scrunchy bow right down into the middle.

Scrunch everything down

So, we’re just scrunching this in. As I’m scrunching, just please, let me know in comments, things you like about this video and if there are things you don’t like about the video. Please, let me know. I’m always looking for ways to improve.

Finally, I’m going to just take my wand. And again, when the Bowdabra’s really full, sometimes you have to manually just pull the towers apart. So, let’s just pull that there, scrunch everything down. And then what I’m going to do is take my wire and bring it up here. I’ll take my wire from the other side, bring it up and pull it through the slipknot really tight while it’s still in my Bowdabra.

Shape the bow

Then, I’m going to take it out, move my Bowdabra aside, separate the ends, bring it around to the back and tie a knot. I’m going to leave the wire in case I want to tie it onto something. And I’m going to start in the back here and shape the back of my bow. Then I’m going to turn it over and shape by pulling all this in opposite directions. And bring my mesh around and shape the loops.

And then just kind of curlicue up my patriotic garland, shape it here, pulling apart. That’s how you shape, is just basically pull in opposite directions. And because this is wired ribbon, I can even shape more. And now, you have this absolutely beautiful patriotic bow that you could use for any season.
