How to quickly make an elegant tree top bow

It’s that time of year.  Time to decorate the tree.  I have three full-size trees in my house and one tree I leave up all winter. Since it has snow and berries already attached it doesn’t need a lot of extra ornamentation.  It does, however, need a gorgeous and elegant tree top bow.  It’s so easy and quick to make I literally made it in less than 10 minutes!

I used stunning Katherine’s collection ribbon and since it has a lot of extra beads and jewels on it can get pretty thick, but the Bowdabra holds everything together perfectly.

Instructions:

First, cut about 24 inches of Bowdabra bow wire.  Fold it in half and place it in the Bowdabra.  You will have a loop on one end and two loose wires on the other.  This will serve as your slipknot.

Next, cut about a 3 ft. Length of ribbon.  Fold the ends in half and cut towards the fold to make a dovetail. Fold in half to find the center and insert it into the Bowdabra.  These are your tails.  You can, if you so desire, make longer tails that extend the length of the tree.  If you don’t want to add tails you can skip this step.  I will be showing you how to make the bow without the tails. The following photos are the steps you would do if you are adding the tails.

Create the dovetail

Optionally add the tails

Now, insert the end of your ribbon into the Bowdabra right side down.  Make a loop and twist so that the wrong side is facing up on the other side.  Make a matching loop.  Then twist and insert into the Bowdabra.  Keep making loops and twisting so that the loops are facing the right side.  Continue making as many loops as you want your bow to have.

Make the last loops smaller on both sides.  Then scrunch down with the Bowdabra wand.  Insert the two loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra.  Separate the wires, turn to the back and tie a knot.  Tie a double knot for extra security.

Fluff out and arrange your bow’s loops.  Use the extra bow wire to tie your elegant tree top bow to your tree.
